Katie Shuts Down - Treatment Postponed.

Katie really needs to come home now. She is totally stressed out. I (Michele) was there on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and Katie shut down and wasn't responding to anyone and refused to talk. The doctor could not get her agreement for the High Dose Chemo so the treatment was postponed. She was released from the hospital in care of the foster parents. The foster parents told Katie "there are consequences for this behavior."

She would be better off at home continuing necessary treatments. How is this in the best interest of the child? That's a phrase the court and CPS love to use and their reason for taking her away from her family. She just needs the love and support of her family. Please return her to our home before it is too late.

This entire situation discusts me. This little girls parents have the right to look up whatever they want in regards to any treatment being explained to them or offered. Traditional medicine in regards to chemo and radiation have been proven unsucessful in certain candidates with cancers. Katie needs to be in optimum health body and spirit to under go any severe treatment for this and not having her PARENTS does not help her mental well being. Any great Doctor would consider all options even if they may or may not benefit from them. This little girl is being torn apart inside. Children need support not struggle! Katie could die either way let her have her parents back.

1.Katie is much too young to have this burden placed on her by our social service system.
2.There is nothing, repeat, nothing that the government does not make worse.
3.Western medicine can only free patients from symptoms, it rarely cures anything.
4.Katie pays the price when society allows mob rule in the name of majority rule.
    5. Shame on us all

From our family to yours, we pray that Katie will be healed and that God will take control of this situation. We pray these FOOLS at CPS and their "lawyers" will be stopped.

    Hodgkins and Chemo/Radiation

Chemotherapy and radiation treatments for Hodgkins Lymphoma is an exhausting treatment course. However, it is the BEST treatment available to CURE this disease. While many cancers do not have an excellent rate of cure, Hodgkins is a disease that can actually be cured -- not just remission. People often confuse this with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma which has a much more ominous outcome. With that said, there are different combinations of chemo and radiation to treat HL. But BOTH are always in the equation. As an oncology nurse I have myself questioned the need for both. Hodkins is present with a significant mediastinal mass. This mass shrinks with chemo but only melts away with radiation.

My only opinion of refusal of treatment is that it is the choice of the patient. A person should be well-informed. I have found that children and especially adolescents have a sense of omnipotence and that life is a video game or something bad isn't actually happening to them.

As a nurse and a mother, it is hard to watch someone make a choice that could cost them their own life. But chemo/radiation isn't something to be taken lightly. However, in all my years of administratin of chemo, I have never seen a Hodgkins patient die from either chemo or radiation. Doses are carefully titrated to each INDIVIDUAL based on many issues. Oncologists/Hematologists are some of the very best doctors, not just for their skill but also for their compassion.

In 1968 I was diagnosed with stage IIA Hodgkins. I was 20 yrs old and one month married. The outlook was very good for me. But I had never even heard of it and the only people my parents knew had died. I received 6 weeks of intensive cobalt. I was told if I survived 5 yrs. I was home free. Needless to say I not only survived the 5 yrs, but went 7 yrs. Just after my 2nd child was born I began to have severe back pain. Lo and behold it had returned. I was diagnosed with IVth stage Hodgkins and given 6 mos - 2 yrs. to live. This time they wanted me to have 6 mos. of chemo and finishing up with a round of radiation. Well, after 3 treatments of chemo I could hardly stand it - I was so weak - could barely get up off the couch to tend to my very young daughter. So my 4 yr old pretty much took care of her. But, the Lord stepped in and led me to a nutrition meeting where I met several different people who enlightened me on a whole new way of thinking about disease. Nutrition and taking control of my own treatment plan. I was given books to read and was put in touch with others who experienced various other diseases and what they were doing. You can imagine that in the mid 70s this was very unconventional. But, what did I have to lose? The medical mainstream was only offering me 2 yrs at best. I refused the radiation and finaly cut off the chemo after 3 mos which was not even consecutive. I changed my diet completely - regained my strength and had never felt better. After 30 yrs. I am still cancer-free. However, about 2 1/2 yrs. ago I wound up in the hospital with a triple bypass and aortic valve replacement. 6 mos later lung surgery and 1 yr later the covering on my heart had to be removed (constrictive pericarditis). I do not have heart disease. All these problems were caused by the intensive cobalt treatments I had had. My whole chest cavity was covered with scar tissue blocking the arteries and the covering on my heart. Did they save my life? Yes. I just wish I had known there were alternatives then. The medical establishment tries to scare you and discourages you from doing your own research. I'm not saying conventional medicine is the wrong way to go. I'm saying you should be informed about your choices, pray, and make the best informed decision you can. Katie, I pray for you and your family and believe that God will be there for you. God Bless all of you.
