Laura Esparza, Dr. Alter's social worker at Driscoll Children's Hospital called on May 26 and asked which of the two doctors, Alter or Mullins, we were choosing and if we were ready to go ahead with the radiation treatments. I told her we had not made up our mind yet as it had only been 2 days, and the doctors did not even agree on the treatment methods and we needed another opinion. She said we had three opinions and she was contacting Child Protective Services to force us to do the treatments. I guess she was counting Dr. Garlitos as an opinion, but he was the one doing the treatment only.

Kim Garcia, CPS investigator, calls my wife Michele on May 27th at about 2pm at work and tells her "doctor Alter sent her a letter and you have ten days to give an answer what we were going to do." Michele told her we were talking to a lawyer and to talk to him. She called back at 4:55pm and said that Michele had to give her an answer by this Tuesday May 31st and that our lawyer would be out of the office until Wednesday. She lied about that to try to trick us into making a quick decision.

Basically they are accusing us of medical neglect of Katie in not getting these radiation treatments for her. Dr. Alter wants to use CPS to force Katie to have the radiation treatments. Yet it is the doctor who did not feed her for four days in the hospital, who has not monitored her since she was out, did not do blood tests, or cleaned her chemo port in the last month. He is guilty of medical neglect, not us.
